The first-ever Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) All-BIIF Teams were released earlier this week, honoring the top athletes that made history in the isle’s inaugural season.
Headlining the West Side’s First Team offense was Konawaena quarterback Ki‘ilei Leleiwi, who was named West Side Offensive Player of the Year. Leleiwi led the state’s top-scoring offense, displaying her ability to throw the ball deep downfield and impressive patience in the pocket. The BIIF champions averaged over 30 points per game with Leleiwi as the signal caller, scoring 40-or-more points five times. Kona’s passing offense also averaged 161 yards per game.
Lady Wildcat receiver Kayzia James and running back Nateila Rivera, who were Leleiwi’s top weapons across the season, were also named to the West Side First Team. Teammates Baylee Lewis (center) and Bria Hao (defensive back) rounded out the remainder of Kona’s five selections.
The green and white finished the season 9-2 overall, including 9-0 in league play. They won the first-ever BIIF championship over Hawaii Preparatory Academy on April 23 by a score of 27-0.
BIIF runner-up HPA had four selections to the All-BIIF West Side team, led by coach Lauren Prutow-McKenna, who was named the West Side’s Coach of the Year. Prutow-McKenna led Ka Makani to an 8-4 overall record and 7-2 record in league play. The red and white ran a run-centric system, averaging 16.7 points per game while allowing 8.6. HPA averaged 113 rushing yards per game.
Ka Makani receivers and defensive backs Lehia Akau and Madie Buczyna made the team with selections on the offensive and defensive side of the field. Akau was named West Side Defensive Player of the Year as a free safety.
Kealakehe, which averaged 18.7 points per game while allowing 12.1, had two selections to the team — defensive backs Leila Brarkett and Tehia Rivera. Kohala running back Ayla Miyamoto and receiver and linebacker Terongomau Kawe made the West Side First Team.
Parker additionally had two selections on either side of the field — receiver Jalyssa Castaneda and linebacker Natalie Wipp. Rounding out the West Side team was Kanu ‘o ka ‘Aina running back A‘lycea Akima and center Ciani Macias.
Kamehameha-Hawaii, which averaged 20.2 points while allowing 11.7 per game, had three selections to the East Side First Team — including the Offensive Player of the Year, receiver Hi‘ilani Perreira-Gaspar. Her teammates, running back Alyssa Solomon-Ho‘opai and linebacker Kenlyn Turner, were additionally named to the first team.
Hilo, who had a dominant inaugural season with an 8-1 league record led by East Side Coach of the Year Casey-Leigh Sabate-Haunio, had receivers Carly Akaka and Sariah Ka‘apana-Suzuki and linebackers Peyton Reis and Brystol Parker make the first team. The Vik Queens finished 2025 averaging nearly 23 points per game while allowing 10.3. They fell to HPA in the island semifinals.
Waiakea, led by East Side Defensive Player of the Year linebacker Kiara Patterson, had selections to the team — including quarterback Kaya Texeira. The Lady Warriors lost in the BIIF semifinals to Hilo last month.
Pahoa also had several Lady Daggers chosen to the East Side First Team, including running back Lindsey Xavier, receivers Ariana Kobayashi and Azan‘yah Brown, defensive back Aiyanna Moniz and defensive lineman Giela Rincon.
Ka‘u additionally had three selections to the team — center Alajshae Barrios and defensive backs Kyra Ebanez and Joslynn Eder. Kea‘au quarterback Lenzy Adlawan and defensive back and receiver Anastasia Fely were additionally selected.
