Sylvester Onaonanamaka “Onaona” Ah Yee, 76, of Hilo died May 14 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Kamoa, Ka‘u, he was captain of his boat, the “Hilinai,” a maintenance worker at the former Hilo Seaside Hote, emergency room security guard at the formermer Hilo Hospital, U.S. Navy veteran and 1967 graduate of Ka‘u High School. Donald “Sweeney” Joseph Perreira, 90, of Hilo, died May 13 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired paramedic assistant for the state Department of Health, Hilo Day Activity Center, a self-employed Santa Claus, basketball coach, track and field coach and volunteer for Special Olympics, canoe paddler for Kaione and Lanikai canoe clubs on Oahu, member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and various classic car clubs and Las Vegas Raiders fan. Born in Kassel, Germany, she sailed from Germany to America with her husband, Richard Santos in 1948, became a U.S citizen in 1954, was a retired employee of the former Hilo Day Activity Center and former member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 19.
