Keiki Come First tournament a
big draw
Nearly 100 keiki anglers and 37 boats filled Honokohau Harber on Jan. 17, in search of prizes, fun, and a focus on family. The tournament emphasized the importance of family and children in the face of drug addiction and is the brain-child of John Lim Jr. of Kailua-Kona. Open to children aged 3-17, the tournament angles to empower children through the introduction of healthy activities like fishing, and provide an outlet for parents to prioritize sobriety and their keiki.
Every child received some sort of prize and spend the day on the water with their families. Lim is excited for next year, and hopes to make the tournament better over time.
Hawaii Island Economic Summit
Windermere C&H Properties presents the inaugural Hawaii Island Economic Summit. This free event will be hosted 9:30 a.m. to noon April 15, at Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel, 75-5660 Palani Road, Kailua-Kona.
Speakers Matthew Gardner and Paul Brewbaker will speak on global, national and local economic trends important to local community leaders, business owners, and individuals to help them understand how to respond and react to these changes.
Gardner is the chief economist at Windermere Real Estate, and Brewbaker is a principal and economist with TZ Economics. Both speakers will share their years of experience, and their data-driven worldwide and local market insights, with the Economic Summit attendees. Olelo Youth Xchange announces video competition finalists
The 16th annual Olelo Youth Xchange Student Video Competition has announced the 2019 finalists from 1,062 elementary, middle and high school students across 88 schools through the Hawaiian Islands.
Live cablecast of the Olelo Youth Xchange Awards Gala will air April 24 starting at 9:30 a.m. on Channel 53; the livestream can be viewed via Facebook and OleloNet at olelo.org/53.
