Dorothy Higa

Dorothy Nobuko Higa, 32, of Hilo, died Jan. 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 25, 1979, in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. Cremation follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughter, Lawrenes Higa, of Hilo; father, Ernest Higa, of Hilo; brothers, John (Monica) Higa, of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Melvet Higa and Shelson Higa, both of Hilo; sisters, Naomi (Kory Une) Higa, of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kalora Aisen, of Marshall Islands, Darling (Takia Takia) Higa, Alise Higa and Bernice Higa, all of Hilo; three nieces; five nephews.

Alan Polito

Alan James Polito, 68, of South Kohala and Incline Village, Nev., died Jan. 12 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born June 11, 1943, in Ridgway, Pa., he earned a doctorate in biochemistry and worked in research and development of diagnostic tests for the Hepatitis C virus and other infectious diseases.

Private services were held. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the W.M. Keck Observatory in Waimea.

He is survived by wife, Carole Polito, of South Kohala and Incline Village, Nev.; sister, Mary (Joe) Boscaino, of State College, Pa.; a niece; a nephew.

Kellee Kamanu

Infant Kellee Napuauiokalani Hui-Lan Kamanu, of Hilo, died Feb. 9 at Hilo Medical Center.

Private services were held.

She is survived by parents, Darryn and Dayna Kamanu, of Keaau; brother, Randen (Tiare Perreira-Sang) Kamanu, of Keaau; sister, Alohilani Kamanu ,of Keaau; maternal grandparents, Kel and Jackie Lee, of Keaau; hanai sister, Darnell Hanamaikai, of Keaau; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Ryuichi Yamada

Ryuichi “Riginch” Yamada, 86, of Hilo, died Jan. 26 at home. Born in Waiakea, he was a retired salesman for Y. Hata & Co. Ltd., an entrepreneur of varied interests, supporter of the Waiakea Pirates and World War II Army veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests monetary gifts and flowers be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Misao Yamada; son, Bruce (Karla) Yamada; daughter, Avis (Bill) Perreira; stepson, Les Miyasato; sister, Sakiko Miyao; 11 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Robert Jervis

Robert Pascal Jervis, 89, of Hilo, died Feb. 7 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 5, 1922, in Andover, Va., he was a retired insurance salesman for Minnesota Mutual, former heavy equipment parts manager and World War II Army veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Michael (Aileen) Jervis, of Hilo; daughter, Valerie (Russell) Nakao, of Mountain View; sister, Lois Price, of Tennessee; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Floyd Lovejoy

Floyd Merle Lovejoy, 80, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 14 at his residence. Born July 21, 1931, in Warwick, N.D., he was a master plumber, owner of Sunset Plumbing Inc. and a member of Kona Baptist Church.

Service will be at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Beverly Lovejoy, of Kailua-Kona; sons, Floyd (Karen) Lovejoy II and Herbert (John) Lovejoy, both of Oregon, Daniel (Lisa) Lovejoy, of Washington; daughters, Marcea (Drew) Ewald, of Vermont, Kim (Leon) Kouyoumdjian, of California; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marley Makanani

Marley Keauokapohinahina Makanani, 3, of Waimea, died Jan. 15 at Kapiolani Children’s Hospital on Oahu. She was born in Las Vegas.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea for an 11:30 a.m. service.

She is survived by father, Kinohi Makanani, of Nanakuli, Oahu, mother Tasha Nihau-Lindsey, of Waimea; sisters, Journey and Taimani Makanani, both of Waimea; paternal grandparents, Jessie Makanani and Mindy Mathias, both of Oahu; paternal great-grandparents, Frank Acasia Sr., Romona Acasia and Hannah Nakea, all of Oahu; maternal grandparents, Clifford Ayau, of Waimea, Phillip Nihau, of Pepeekeo, Alex Espaniola and Betsy Lindsey, both of Las Vegas; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Atalberto Malon

Atalberto N. Malon, 50, of Pahoa, died Jan. 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Chuuk, Micronesia, he worked as a landscaper for TNT Payroll Services in Kailua-Kona and was a former police officer, chief clerk and councilman in the state of Chuuk, Micronesia.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Sacred Hearts of Pahoa for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Siana Puas, of Pahoa; daughters, Eslyn Malon and Monesa Malon, both of Pahoa; brothers, Joan Malon and Wiliam Malon, both of Chuuk, Micronesia; sisters, Denia (Marcus), of Alaska, Diena (Ruben), of Pohnpei, Micronesia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Gaylord

Mary Emily “Marily” Gaylord, 67, of Hilo, formerly of Kailua, Oahu, died Feb. 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Racine, Wis., she was a retired licensed practical nurse.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a noon Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, MacBrian (Denise) Gaylord, of Mountain View; daughters, Roseann (Mark Putt) Gaylord, of Hilo, Maureen (Marvin) Mattos Gaylord, of Keaau; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert Bean

Captain Robert “Haole Boy” Raymond Bean, 65, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 8 at his residence. Born July 8, 1946, in Oakland, Calif., he was a charter boat business owner and captain, member of Kona Charter Skippers Association, Kona Fil Am, Kona Centrals, Kona Alii softball team, Kona Iki Trollers, Solid Rock Ministry and lifetime member with Kai O Pua Canoe Club.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 25 at Makolea (the former Kona Lagoon Hotel location in Kahaluu) with a 10 a.m. service. Luncheon to follow.
