Richard Benevides

Richard Harry Pedro Benevides, 67, of Glenwood, died Feb. 6 at Kaiser-Moanalua on Oahu. Born in Hilo, he was a retired longshoreman at Hilo Harbor for HT&T, a commercial fisherman, a high priest for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Keaau Ward), a Vietnam Navy veteran, foster parent of the year in 1987 and parent of the year for special needs children in 2003.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Ponahawai Chapel) on Ponahawai Street for a 6 p.m. service. Burial is at 1:42 p.m. Feb. 25 at the family residence in Glenwood (18-4097 North Glenwood Road in Mountain View).

He is survived by wife, Cherie Benevides, of Glenwood; daughter, Darla (Dennis) Eblacas, of Keaau; sons, Richard (Kehau Pau) Benevides and Gabriel Benevides, both of Glenwood, Jacob (Lisa) Benevides Sr., Jack (Amanda) Benevides and Julian Benevides, all of Mountain View; hanai children, Chai Pope and Sione Kaholo, both of Hilo; stepsons, Kaholo and Ikaika Souza-Kamakea, both of Hilo; brother, Abel Benevides Jr., of Hilo; sister, Barbara (Antone) De Luz, of Paaulio; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Katherine Kuwada

Katherine Kahee Kuwada, 91, of Hilo, died Feb. 13 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Papaaloa, she was a retired housekeeper for Furneaux Hotel.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home for an 11 a.m. service.

She is survived by son, George (Darlene) Kuwada, of Hilo; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchilden; eight great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Anastacio Duterte Sr.

Anastacio Doydora Duterte Sr., 79, of Holualoa, died Jan. 30 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 22, 1933, in Keei, he was a cook at the former Kona Inn Resort and King Kamehameha Hotel and member of the ILWU and St. John’s Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kealakekua for a wake service. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. Feb. 25 at the church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Fa mily requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Marta Duterte, of Holualoa; sons, Fidel Duterte and Anastacio (Morlino Abangan) Duterte Jr., both of Holualoa; sister, Fortunata (Feliciano) Imbaga, of Honolulu; two grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
