Lions Club holds annual pancake breakfast

The Kailua-Kona Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast at March 18 at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. Pancakes, sausage and beverages will be served from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Entertainment by local kupuna groups will be featured during the event.

Tickets are $8 and are available from any Kailua-Kona Lion member. Proceeds of the fundraiser help support the Lions scholarship program preschool vision screening and various local charities and community projects. Winning posters from the recent “Sight is Beautiful” contest will be prominently displayed.

Used eyeglasses will be accepted that morning for the Lions recycle program. After cleaning, they are processed for distribution in developing countries.

Prostate cancer support group meets March 21

The Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group meets the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be held at noon March 21 at the lower level of the pool bar at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Newly diagnosed and prostate cancer survivors are welcome. Share cancer-related issues and lend support to other meeting attendees.

No charge to attend. Lunch will not be served, but may be purchased at the pool bar.

Males 45 or older and their caregivers are encouraged to learn about prostate cancer risks and early detection to help them make informed decisions with their doctors about their prostate health.

Grand Green Workshop slated for Wednesday

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Kuleana Business Committee will host a public workshop entitled Grand Green Workshop on Wednesday, March 14 from 5 – 6 p.m. at the NELHA Gateway Center. The workshop will be a fun, participatory event that offers participants options for deciding how they would like to make their businesses or personal lives greener. Everyone has ideas on how they would like to modify their lives to become more environmentally conscious. This workshop will offer suggestions on how to start those changes or make a greater commitment to changes already in place.

In addition, information on the upcoming Grand Green Homes Tour will be provided, including volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, green business vendor booth opportunities at individual homes and examples of features to be highlighted. Tickets for home tours will also be available. Refreshments will be served.
