The eighty-ninth State Conference for the Daughters of the American Revolution was held in Kailua-Kona.

Over 50 members enjoyed a day of friendship, sharing, aloha and recognition for their many volunteer efforts. Guest speaker Maile Melrose, great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Caroline Greenwell and Henry Nicholas Greenwell, entertained with a talk-story about the history of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

The Hawaii state organization began on March 2, 1916 and is proud to have over 200 active members statewide. In 2012, the Hawaii Loa Chapter participated in numerous patriotic commemorative events. They supported public libraries and donated items to the State Veterans Home in Hilo, including sending birthday cards to resident veterans. The local DAR chapter sent Christmas cards to military personnel serving in Afghanistan. Members also awarded DAR medals to four island high school students.
