Zacarias Defiesta Bermudez, 87, of Keaau, died March 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 5, 1924, in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a retired utility worker for the former Puna Sugar Co. and member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Keaau.

Friends may call a 6 p.m. March 22 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo, for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Carlina Bermudez, of Keaau; sons, Conrado Bermudez and Amadeo (Elizabeth) Bermudez, both of Keaau, Romualdo (Melania) Bermudez, of Santa Maria, Philippines, Pablito Bermudez, of California, Jay (Maria) Bermudez, of Honolulu; daughters, Florecita (Ancelmo, Jr.) Alonzo, of Waikoloa, Rosalinda (Benjamin, Jr.) Cabalo, of Chino Hills, Calif., Yolanda (Peter) Acorda, of Fontana, Calif., Mary Jane (Shon, IV) Bowden, of Volcano, Junelle (Ryan) Bumagat, of Beaverton, Ore.; sisters, Tomasa Nervez, of the Philippines, Iluminada Banez, of Virginia; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
