Ernest Schmidt

Ernest Michael “Mike” Schmidt, 73, of Hilo, April 3 died at home. Born in Peoria, Ill., he was an auctioneer, former owner of Paradise Auctions and member of Hilo Yacht Club, Hawaii Island Board of Realtors and National Auctioneers Association.

Friends may call at noon April 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 2 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Gloria Schmidt, of Hilo; daughters, Colleen Pabre, of Hilo, Brenda (Jack) Spurlock, of Kansas; son, Steven (Michelle) Schmidt, of Phoenix; sister, Susan (Stephen) Tchudi, of Chico, Calif.; hanai sister, Sonia Glenn, of Washington state; hanai brother, Brent (Karen) Mournahan, of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Loy Hancock

Loy Arthur Hancock, 88, of Mountain View, died April 1 at his home. Born Aug. 2, 1923, in Hindsville, Ark., he was a retired Navy aviation electronic technician and combat veteran and retired U.S. Postal Service worker.

Friends may call about sunset todayat Hilo Bay near Coconut Island for a memorial potluck. Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Rosecrans in Point Loma, San Diego.

He is survived by children, Yvonne Hancock, Bill Hancock, Gene Hancock and Stan Hancock; adopted children, Altamira Hancock, Erica Hancock,and Buddy Hancock; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; at least 118 foster children.
