Thomas Spencer Sr.
Thomas Kealiikapu Spencer Sr., 83, of Keaukaha, Hilo, died April 9 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Puueo, Hilo, he was a retired federal crash crew firefighter on Wake Island, caretaker with the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, former employee of Yamada and Sons and member of Keola No Na Kupuna of Keaukaha and head of the Merrie Monarch Royal Court for 49 years.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. April 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. April 20 at Homelani Memorial Park for a graveside committal service. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by sons, Sidney (Karan) Spencer, of Redlands, Calif., Thomas Spencer Jr., of Las Vegas; daughters, Hannah (Christino) Caravalho, Harriet (Harvey) Arima, Charlotte (Walter) Nakoa and Vanessa Spalding, all of Hilo, Claudia (Donald) Skinner, of Puna; sisters, Oinah (Henry) Anakalea, of Hilo, Mary Dennison, of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; two hanai grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Yasuko Okajima
Yasuko Okajima, 93, of Hilo, died April 5 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 3, 1918, in Pepeekeo, she was a retired starter at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course and member of the Lehua Women’s Golf Club, AJA Women’s Golf Club, Hawaii Island Golf Association.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Marsha) Okajima and David (Mary) Okajima, both of Hilo; daughter, Jeri (Kent) Kimura, of Hilo; brother, Teruo (Tamayo) Nagami, of Hilo; sister, Mikako (Kiyoshi) Hamakawa, of Hilo; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Gerald Akina
Gerald K. Akina, 69, of Waimea, died April 11 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born July 18, 1942, in Kohala, he was a heavy equipment mechanic and member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 21 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea for a 9 a.m. Mass. Urn burial follows at the Waimea Catholic Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Judith Akina, of Waimea; sons, Gerald Akina Jr. and George (C.J.) Louise Furtado
Louise Hancock Anoipua King Furtado, 75, of Keaau, died April 3 at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 20, 1936, in Honolulu, she was retired state social worker at the former Waimano Home and Hospital on Oahu, an at-home caregiver and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 21 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pahoa Ward in Orchidland for a service. Scattering of her cremated remains will follow at the Hilo Bayfront area. Family requests casual attire be worn.
She is survived by son, Jack (Jane) Furtado, of Hilo; daughter, Lauren Figueroa, of Keaau; sister, Nina (Ron) Yoshida, of Mililani, Oahu; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
