Kazuko Shimizu

Kazuko Shimizu, 84, of Hilo, died May 22 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born Sept. 5, 1927, in Fukuoka, Japan, she was manager of the former Sakura Saimin, Kotobuki and Suigetsu restaurants in Hilo and member of New Hope Christian Fellowship Church.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 8 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Charles (Shirley) Shimizu, Richard Shimizu, both of Hilo, Steve (Angie) Shimizu, of Waikoloa; daughter, Eileen (Winfred) Onishi, of Hilo; brothers, Hiroshi (Tokuko) Ueno, Minoru Ueno, both of Japan; sisters, Jitsuko (Michio) Kobayashi, Yoko Suzuki, both of Japan; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Florence Marantan

Florence Botelho Marantan, 87, of Kaiwiki, Hilo, died May 21. Born in Hilo, she was a private care home owner and operator and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waikahe ward.

Friends may may call at 9 a.m. June 8 at Hilo Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire (no black attire) be worn.

She is survived by daughter, Caroline (Jimmy) Enocencio, of Hilo; stepson, Henry (Rose) Marantan, of Newark, Calif.; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and cousins.

Joseph Lewi

Joseph Hinano Lewi, 72, of Hilo, died May 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 2, 1940, in Kealia, he was a retired heavy equipment operator, truck driver and former member of Hawaii Army National Guard.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. June 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. June 9 at the mortuary for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at noon at Homelani Memorial Park Lehua Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Stephanie Lewi, of Hilo; sons, Joseph (Vanessa) Lewi Jr., of Honolulu, Bernie (Micole) Ku, of Kona, Jason (Shayln) Lewi, Kalani (Charmay) Lewi, both of Hilo; daughters, Jolian (Tony) Sojot, of Kona, Charline (John) Souza, of Molokai, Josephine (Alfred) Sextimo, Carrie (Lokahi) Kekuewa, Rocky (Ranolin) Lewi, Johnette (Kimo) Borling-Lewi, all of Hilo; brother, Walter (Darlene) Lewi, of Hilo; sisters, Lillian Bungula, Charlotte (James) Hinomiya-Lewi, both of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

LaDonna Austen

LaDonna Mae Austen, 85, of Hilo, died May 11 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 23, 1926, in Pineland, Texas, she was a retired department store manager for Strike It Rich in Odessa, Texas, member of AARP, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3875-Hilo, Hilo Elks Lodge 759 and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. June 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual be worn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Life Care Center of Hilo, 944 West Kawailani, Hilo, HI.

She is survived by husband, Edmund Austen, of Hilo; daughters, Sherry (George) Black, Jacqueline (Fidel) Sauceda, both of Galveston, Texas, Barbara Austen, LaDonna Fincham, both of Hilo; brother, Robert (Rosemary) Ferguson, of Artesia, N.M.; one grandchild.

Shizue Oshita

Shizue Oshita, 95, of Hilo, died May 29 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honomu, she retired as a homemaker.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. June 9 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests no monetary gifts.

She is survived by sons, Roy Oshita, of Hilo, Calvin (Helen) Oshita, of Mililani, Oahu; daughter, Gail (John) Kimura, of Hilo; brother, Haruo (Grace) Matsuura, of Honolulu; sisters, Fumiko Imada, of Honolulu, Yukiko (Dennis) Maeda, of Los Angeles; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ferico Savella

Ferico “Milan” Gaspar Savella, 87, of Naalehu, died May 26 at his residence. Born Oct. 23, 1924, in Rizal, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was retired from Ka’u Agribusiness and member of Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. June 9 at Naalehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.
