Big Island police are investigating a late Wednesday attempted robbery of a gas station in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly before midnight, a man described as being Caucasian reportedly entered the Lako Street Chevron armed with a handgun and demanded money from a 46-year-old male cashier working behind the counter, according to the Hawaii Police Department. The cashier refused the demand for money and the suspect fled from the area.

The suspect was described as being in his late teens to early 20s, having a fair complexion and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds, according to police. He was wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt, shorts, shoes and mirrored sunglasses.

He reportedly fled in a light colored four door sedan traveling in an unknown direction.
