Satsuko Nakamura hit a hole-in-one Thursday at Big Island Country Club. He hit his shot on a 103-yard 17th hole using a 7 iron.

Positive Coaching Alliance workshops coming up
The Positive Coaching Alliance Big Island and the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will host three free “coaching for winning and life lessons” workshops in the coming weeks. These workshops are mandatory for all youth coaches who will use county facilities for practices and games.
The workshops are free, but there is a fee of $6 to cover the cost of a PCA workbook. Each participants will receive a two-year certification for all parks and recreation leagues and youth leagues. The department encourages all coaches to attend.
The registration form is available at the recreation division office at 799 Piilani Street and online at hawaiicounty.gov/pr-recreation/ and can be dropped off or faxed over to the office. Attendees can pay for the book at the workshops. Walk-in registrations will also be accepted on the date of the workshops.

Kona Japanese Civic Association golf tourney Sunday
The Kona Japanese Civic Association will hold its second annual golf tournament Sunday at the Kona Country Club. It will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the mountain course.
The registration fee is $100 per person.
There is also a $10 charge for mulligans.
Sponsorships are available at various levels for $100, $500, $750 and $1,000.

BIRR host Mana
10s on Sunday
The Big Island Road Runners present the Mana 10s on Sunday in Waimea.
The 10-mile and 10-kilometer runs will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Mana Road. Registration is from 6:30 a.m. until 7:15 a.m. The fee is $5 for Big Island Road Runners members and $10 for nonmembers. Yearly dues are $20; so nonmembers are encouraged to join the club.
The race will award the top overall male and female finishers, and runners will be eligible for prize drawings as well as postrace refreshments.
Organizers advise carpooling because of limited parking.

Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament organizers seek volunteers for their annual tourney, which takes place Aug. 13-17 in Kailua-Kona.
Event activities begin on Aug. 8 and run through Aug. 18, and officials need assistance with Kailua Pier operations, administration and HIBT retail store duties.

Soccer training program Friday and Saturday
in Kailua-Kona
The Zig Kory Soccer Academy will conduct a soccer training camp Friday and Saturday at Old Kona Airport Park in Kailua-Kona.
Ziggy Korytoski, the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s men’s soccer coach, will oversee the camp.
One session for players ages 8-18 will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, with two more sessions scheduled for 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The cost is $95.

The Hawaii Police Department’s traffic services section and the Hawaii Island Police Activities League will conduct Click It or Ticket 3-on-3 Basketball Tournaments on the following dates:
c Aug. 10-12: The new covered sports building in Panaewa
c Aug. 24-26: Honokaa Parks and Recreation sports complex
c Sept. 8: Naalehu gymnasium
The tournaments offer five boys age divisions (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14), a high school boys division, three girls age divisions (10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under) and a high school girls division. The tournament’s age cutoff date is Dec. 31, 2011.
Each division has a limit of 10 teams. Teams interested in participating must complete registration materials two weeks prior to the start of a tournament.
Submit registration packets at the community policing office (formerly the receiving desk in the public safety building) in Hilo or the Kona police receiving desk.
Interested teams may also fax materials to 961-2209 in East Hawaii or 327-3583 in West Hawaii.

PCA Summer ‘Fun Raiser’ Aug. 18 at Big Island CC
Big Island Country Club will host the Puu Anahulu Community Association 10th annual “Fun Raiser” golf tournament on Aug. 18. The event is sponsored by the PCA and raises funds to support association community projects.
The event is a four-person team, modified scramble using the latest July handicap. Check-in is at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $100 per person, which includes green fee, cart, prizes and awards luncheon at the Puu Anahulu Community Center immediately following the tournament.
Registration forms are available at the Big Island Country Club, located on State Highway 190 at mile marker 20, or on the Big Island Country Club website, bigislandcountryclub.com. Beginner golf
classes for women
Golf professional Rob Wohlgemuth will offer a five-week series of beginner golf lessons for women at Makalei Golf Club beginning Aug. 11.
The classes are open to all women interested in the basics of golf. Classes meet five consecutive Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m.

Rain Forest Runs
Aug. 18 in Volcano
The third annual Volcano Art Center Rain Forest Runs will take place Aug. 18 at Cooper Center in Volcano. The event will begin at 7 a.m. with a half-marathon. A 10-kilometer run will follow at 7:30 a.m., with a 5K run/walk set for 7:45.
The entry fee is $75 for the half-marathon, $45 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. Those wanting to register for the half-marathon must do so by 6 p.m. Aug. 17. Athletes may register in person from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus. Athletes can register for the 10K and 5K runs until 7 a.m. on race morning.
Also, a carbo-loading dinner will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Kilauea Military Camp’s cafeteria. The cost is $15 for those age 12 and up and $8.50 for children ages 6-11.

Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai tickets now on sale
Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai tickets are now on sale. The Champions Tour’s season-opening event will take place Jan. 16-20 at Hualalai Golf Course at the Four Seasons Resort.
Weekly grounds tickets are available in advance for $25, and a one day grounds pass is $15. Youth 18 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. Tickets may be purchased online at pgatour.com/tickets, or by calling 800-417-2770.
