In her series of ongoing plein air classes, painter Lynn Capell encourages aspiring artists to join her in painting on location as she begins her fall “Wet Paint!” class consisting of a five-week session, which started Wednesday.
The classes are limited to seven students and will be held each week in a predetermined location outside along the Kona Coast. The classes will continue on Wednesdays through Oct. 10, but students are able to enroll at any time during the five weeks, depending on space availability.
Instruction is given on how to complete a small oil painting in a three- to four-hour session, for beginner through intermediate painters. The class will meet at 9 a.m. and finish at 1 p.m. Drop-ins and previous students are also welcome.
Capell has been painting all of her life, and has been Kona resident for 13 years. She began painting “en plein air” more than 15 years ago while living on a small tropical flower-filled island off the coast of Panama. She is known for her loose and colorful style and liberal brushwork, as well as her love of staying “outta” the lines.
She has been included in various exhibitions and juried shows throughout the Hawaiian Islands, California and Panama. Her hula dancer paintings are on permanent display at the Hilton Waikoloa’s Malolo Lounge. She also exhibits in both the Lavender Moon Gallery in Kainaliu and the Wishard Gallery in Waimea, and is a participant as well in the current “Sensei and Sensabilities” show at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa. The registration fee and supply list are available through the Donkey Mill Art Center. The next session will begin Oct. 17 and continue through Nov. 14.
