Mauna Kea course among top 100

Golf Magazine has named the Mauna Kea Golf Course as the number one course on the Big Island and 22nd overall in its 2012 annual “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” ranking of nationally acclaimed golf courses.

Often ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the U.S., Mauna Kea opened in 1964 as the unique creation of golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones. It gained worldwide fame as the site of a televised match among golf’s “Big 3:” Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. In 2008, course architect Rees Jones brought his father’s original layout into the 21st century with a careful and creative renovation. The oceanfront layout was preserved while the challenge and playability were enhanced.
