The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for the Big Island’s west-facing shores through 6 p.m. Sunday.
The service forecast waves ranging in height from 8 feet to 12 feet along west-facing shores. The surf is forecast to remain at advisory levels through the rest of the weekend.
A high surf advisory means that waves along the affected shores will be higher than normal and dangerous rip currents are expected, according to the service. Beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break.
