Kings’ Shops fetes Chinese New Year

The public is invited to a Chinese New Year celebration Friday at Kings’ Shops. A traditional lion dance performed by the Big Island Shaolin Arts Group begins at 6 p.m. The lion will proceed through the center stopping at stores who have cabbage and Lai See (red envelopes containing money). Individuals can also present the lion with red envelopes to receive a blessing of good luck and fortune.

Arts Under the Stars is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Artists and merchants will have displays set out in front of their stores.

Nursery offers Valentine’s workshop

Tropical Edibles Nursery will be making herbal bouquets for Valentine’s Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 13 at its facility in Captain Cook. The staff will offer materials and ideas for creating bouquets, sachets and nosegays for valentine gifts using herbs from its garden.

Participants will get to make as many gifts as they like at $5 each. Everyone is invited to a potluck lunch at noon. Salad will be offered, bring something to share.
