Court Ruling

Decision for development
plan gratifying

It is of great interest to read that Judge Raond Ibarra (West Hawaii Today, May 1) ruled that the Kona Community Development Plan must be followed by the county planning department. That is gratifying to me and the many hundreds of Kona citizens who worked diligently on getting this plan to become a reality and convincing the council to accept it and make it law. It’s the first bit of real local governance that Kona has. It is truly Kona’s regional plan.

Let’s hope the county will not foolishly spend thousands of dollars trying to appeal this ruling. The judge’s ruling made it clear that the KCDP is now law.

Community’s help made event a success

Neighborhood Place of Kona wishes to thank all who came together to make our inaugural Celebrating Ohana on April 27 a huge success. From the Kona International Market, which graciously provided the beautiful venue, to the folks who engaged keiki with fun activities and supplied helpful resources. The list goes on — musicians, instructors and youth who enthusiastically shared their talents, businesses who donated balloons, coffee, door prizes, produce, water, sound equipment and expertise. Numerous selfless individuals made signs and lei, prepared and served food, helped to set up and break down the event. Our community’s participation demonstrates the value we place on family, and the importance of spending time with our keiki. It was heartwarming to see everyone having fun, making connections and strengthening family bonds.

Aohe hana nui ke alu ia. No task is too big when done together (Mary Kawena Pukui). Mahalo for being such a caring community.
