A 30-year-old man was uninjured when his tractor-trailer collided with a utility pole in Waimea Monday morning, snarling traffic for several hours.

The man was driving the tractor-trailer toward Honokaa on Mamalahoa Highway when he drove off the road and struck a utility pole on the south side of the highway, the Hawaii Police Department said. The collision occurred between Iokua Place and Mokuloa Drive and left wires on the highway.

Mamalahoa Highway was closed to both directions of travel for about two hours. One lane of traffic was reopened at about 9:30 a.m., while Hawaii Electric Light Co. crews replaced the pole.

One lane of the highway remained closed throughout the afternoon. Waimea Police Capt. Aimee Wana said she expected the road to reopen fully sometime Monday evening.
