Critical habitat meeting Wednesday

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Pacific Islands Fish and Wildlife Office, staff will host a public open house and meeting from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Meeting Hale, Building G, at the West Hawaii Civic Center.

Staff members will listen to the perspectives and issues from interested parties concerning the proposed critical habitat designation on Hawaii Island for three plant species and the draft economic analysis which estimates potential economic impacts related to the designation of critical habitat. They will explain the designation process and clarify any concerns or questions the public may have before final critical habitat is designated.

Comments on the proposed critical habitat and Draft EA will be accepted until Sept. 3. This is not a public hearing and testimony will not be taken at the meeting. For more information, call 323-4444.
