Kailua-Kona’s own Leeward Steelers Mitey Mite Pop Warner football team went undefeated in the Pop Warner Super Bowl mitey-mite division Saturday in Kissimmee, Fla.

The team won its two games, 14-0 and 20-0, head coach Wyatt Nahale told West Hawaii Today. In the mitey-mite division, top teams from each region each play two games, he said, noting that having won both games would equate to being one of the top teams nationally.

With the wins, the team finishes the season with a 9-0 record.

The boys are enjoying their time in Florida and “having a blast,” Nahale said.

“Every one has embraced them and have only positive things to say about how they played and represented the state of Hawaii,” Nahale said. “I’m so proud!”

The team is scheduled to arrive back on the Big Island on Tuesday night.
