Co-Dependents Anonymous to meet
The Co-Dependents Anonymous women’s meeting is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Unity Church sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place in Kailua-Kona.
Co-Dependents Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships. The nonprofit is supported by voluntary contributions of attending members.

Fireworks permits available Thursday
Fireworks permits will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.
Permits will be available at the Kona Fire Prevention office, located at the West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, Building E, second floor, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Dec. 30 and 31; and at the Parker Ranch Shopping Center Food Court, Waimea, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Dec. 28, 29, 30 and 31.
Fireworks permits will also be sold at the following firecracker vending outlets: Pacific Fireworks Kona, 75-5629 Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona; and Thunder Fireworks Kona, 75-1022 Henry St., Kailua-Kona.
Each permit costs $25 and will entitle the holder to purchase 5,000 individual firecrackers. Multiple permit purchases are authorized. Permits shall only be issued to individuals 18 years or older and are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Fireworks sales will begin Thursday and will end at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Permits are not required for the purchase of novelties and paperless firecrackers.
Setting off fireworks for New Year’s celebrations is allowed between 9 p.m. Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. Jan. 1. Permits Must be visibly displayed at the site of use, during the time of firing.

Families receive food for the holidays
More than 700 keiki and their families will receive food assistance from The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank.
Through creative partnership with the Hawaii Island United Way and KAPA FM, each child selected will receive a box of food. Many children receive their primary meals during the week at school, and many families struggle to keep them fed during long breaks such as the holiday season.
West Hawaii children selected include those from Honaunau, Kealakehe, Ke Kula O Ehunuikaimalino, Kohala and Naalehu elementary schools.
