The competition at the The Hawaii Age-Group Short Course Swimming Championships heated up Saturday and the action featured many notable performances by local competitors.
Cara Jernigan followed up her record-setting day with a pair of silver medals in the 17-18 200 medley relay and 200 individual medley, and tacked on a third-place finish in the 1000 freestyle.
Fellow Kona Aquatics swimmer and distance specialist Leahi Camcho edged Jernigan in the 1000 freestyle for the silver, finishing with a time of 10:37.73. Kamehameha Swim Club’s Jasmine Mau took home to gold in the event — one of four for her on the day.
The Kona Dolphins swim club had an impressive showing in the boys 10-and-under 200 medley relay, placing third. Noa Clark, Duke Becker, Kaden Parker and Alexander Laros were the members of the relay team.
Paloma Field of the Kona Dolphins took home the silver in the girls 10-and-under 50-yard backstroke with a time of 32.76.
Warrior Aquatic Club’s Korrie Tengan finished second in both the girls 10-and-under 100 breaststroke and 100 individual medley. Tengen also added a bronze to her collection with a third place finish in the 50 backstroke.
The WAC team of Ryan Bisel, Ren Kuwaye-Tamanaha, Cody Hamane and Adam Hill placed second in the men 17-18, 200 yard medley relay.
Kamehameha continues to doiminate the team standings with a score of 1591.5. Punahou Aquatics follows in second with a distant 901. Kona Aquatics remains the top Big Island club with 222 points.
The event concludes today at the Kona Community Aquatic Center.
