Murray McLean

Murray S. McLean, 73, of Hilo died Dec. 19, 2013, at home. Born Feb. 4, 1940, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was retired from United Airlines in Honolulu, member of First United Protestant Church in Hilo and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at First United Protestant Church in Hilo for a service. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Punchbowl, Oahu. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Jane McLean of Hilo; daughter, Marla (Charles) Sabadell of Colorado; son, Mark (Cheryl) McLean of Illinois; sisters, Kathy (Marc) Frank of Ohio, Susie (George) Riecke and Julie Armstrong, both of Indiana; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Donald Yamada

Donald Kalaniopuu Yamada, 82, of Hilo died Dec. 5, 2013, at home. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was the retired president of Yamada and Sons and member of the Hawaii Island Contractors Association.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by sons, Robert (Trudy) Yamada and Curtis Yamada, both of Hilo, Kelly (Renee) Yamada of Honomu, Weston Yamada of Pahoa, Garry (Nola) Yamada of Keaau; daughter, Donna Miller of Hilo; brother, Ronald (Lei) Yamada of Hilo; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Hisako Hamakawa

Hisako Hamakawa, 98, of Hilo died Dec. 13, 2013, at a care home in Hilo. Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Hilo, she was a retired office clerk for 7UP Bottling Co. and member of Higashi Hongwanji Mission, Higashi Hongwanji Senior Fujinkai, Higashi Hongwanji Bonsai Club, Kamana Center Senior Citizens, Villa Franca Kumiai and Settlement University Extension Club.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Dec. 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Roy (Carol) Hamakawa of Hilo; daughter, Carol Minami of Hilo; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alexander Kaopuiki

Alexander Nainoa Kaopuiki, 83, of Hilo died Dec. 19, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 7, 1930, in Kona, he was a retired truck checker boy for Hilo Transportation and Terminal Co., retired Hawaii National Guard veteran and rodeo bull rider.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 29 at the Alpha &Omega Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Scattering of ashes will be at a later date. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by son, Joseph Kaopuiki of Hilo; three hanai nieces; one hanai nephew.

John Remke Jr.

John Lang Remke Jr., 56, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 16. Born Aug. 5, 1957, he was the owner Kona Kwik Lube.

Family has planned private services.

He is survived by wife, Coleen Remke of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Morgan and Helen Remke, both of Kailua-Kona; brother, Andy Remke of St. Paul, Minn.; sisters, Leslie Rennie-Hill of Portland, Ore., Nancy Manafort of Lecanto, Fla., Priscilla Remke of Rio Rancho, N.M., Stacy Remke of Minneapolis; Sara Remke of St. Paul, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence Mitchell

Florence “Betsy-Sandy” Macaulay Mitchell, 89, of Volcano died Dec. 16, 2013, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Schofield, Oahu, she was a retired director of donor recruitment and community relations for the Blood Bank of Hawaii, co-founder and past president of the Cooper Center Council, the honorary mayor of Volcano and member of the Hawaii County Police Commission.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cooper Center Council.

She is survived by husband, Robert Mitchell Jr. of Volcano; son, Jim Mitchell of Volcano; daughter, Mary Lou Mitchell (Charles) Davis of Kailua, Oahu; sister, Margaret Macaulay Woods of University Place, Wash.; three grandchildren.

Gladys Sakai

Gladys Hanako Sakai, 89, of Hilo died Nov. 25, 2013, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Olaa, she worked in the quality control department at Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and was a member of East Kawailani Kumiai.

Private services were held.

She is survived by daughters, Sharon (Clifton) Muraki and Audrey Sakai-Smith, both of Honolulu; sister, Sueno Saruwatari of Pepeekeo; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Charles Roark

Charles Langton Roark, 92, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 11, 2013, at his residence. Born July 31, 1921 in Los Angeles, he was a World War II Navy veteran, worked in electronic sales and retired from Avnet, Corp., and member of the Masonic Lodge, Kona Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters and the Kona Elks Club.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Juel Roark of Kailua-Kona; son, Charles (Sherry) Roark Jr. of Ventura, Calif.; daughter, Constance (Ron) Hasler of Mesa, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Linda Pippin of San Jose, Calif.; stepson, Mark (Deby) Pippin of Vista, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Terry Seacord

Terry Wilson Seacord, 78, of Waimea died Dec. 19, 2013, at Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Santa Ana, Calif., he was a self-employed locksmith, maintenance worker for Parker Ranch, iron worker and a Navy veteran.

Services were held.

He is survived by wife, Elaine Seacord; daughters, Debby Edwards, Donna Green, Diana Rivadeneyra; sisters, Carol Ann Anderson, Jeanne Hancock; brother, Alan Seacord; stepmother; Kathryn Oberschulte; nine grandchildren.

Adam Ludwig

Adam Lloyd Ludwig, 28, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 14, 2013, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug, 28, 1985, in Olympia, Wash., he was a deckhand on the fishing boat Hookele.

Services were held.

He is survived by mother, Susan Steinman of Olympia Wash.; sister, Audra Ludwig of Olympia, Wash.; one nephew.
