Please use fireworks where allowed

As New Year’s Eve approaches, I would ask that homeowners and renters who reside in residential areas that have home owner association regulations that state “no fireworks,” abide by those covenants. No fireworks means no fireworks. If you choose to celebrate, please go to those areas designated for the activities as listed in the newspaper. Enjoy them in the sky — not on residential streets. Parade entrants thank the community

The Kona Marshallese Communities Association would like to thank the many people who helped to make our entry in the recent Kona Christmas Parade a success. Our float, which won second place in the best in song category, was the first parade entry in the state by a Marshallese group.

Most of all, we want to thank the community of West Hawaii for its warm and enthusiastic response to our float.

Mahalo for saving this swimmer

To the surfer and bodyboarder who pulled me away from the rocks at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area around 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, thank you. I was a bit out of breath at the time and didn’t get to thank you properly. I’m really grateful.
