Highway 19 is closed in the area of mile marker 34, near Paauilo, because of severe flooding, according the Hawaii Police Department.

Because of the flooding, debris and other road hazards along the Hamakua Coast, this closure has been extended. The highway is now closed from mile marker 26 through mile marker 36, police said.

Crews are working to clear debris. It is unknown when Highway 19 will reopen, police said.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution.
