Read aloud program focuses on Mexico
Friends of the Libraries, Kona will host its free family read aloud program, “Books are Building Blocks,” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.
Guests will be Pablo Bustamante of St. Michael the Archangel Church with members of the Hispanic Youth Group. Participants will learn about Mexico and Mexican traditions and join in the dance and songs.
The read aloud program is offered the first Tuesday of each month of the school year. Parents must attend the program with their children. Registration runs from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in front of the library, the program is from 5 to 5:30 p.m., and reading by age group from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Brain injury group meets Wednesday
The Brain Injury Support group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Rehab Services, mauka of the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union on Hualalai Road.
Donna Payasko, an attorney with the Law Offices of Darl Gleed, will share information about wills, advanced health care directives and living wills.

Masons meeting Wednesday evening
The Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons will meet Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7, Kailua-Kona. Dinner begins at 6, followed by a 7 p.m. meeting then dessert.

Mauna Loa volcanic talk set in Ocean View
Mauna Loa’s eruptive history and current status are the topics of a free talk by Frank Trusdell, U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologist, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ocean View Community Center.
Mauna Loa, one of Hawaii’s most active volcanoes, has erupted 33 times since 1843 — most recently in March 1984. During that 23-day-long eruption, lava flows reached to within 4 miles of the Hilo city limits.
Trusdell’s talk is one of many programs offered by the observatory in January, Hawaii Island’s fifth annual Volcano Awareness Month.

Free video production class offered
Na Leo O Hawaii offers a free video production orientation from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at its Kaiwi Square facility, 74-5565 Luhia St., C1-A, Kailua-Kona.
