Cruise ship visits Wednesday
The Pride of America will visit Kailua Village on Wednesday, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation.
Kailua-Kona Seniors installing new officers
Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. New officers for 2014 will be installed. Members are asked to attend and be prepared to give suggestions for club activities in the coming year.

Orchid Society meets Friday night
Kona Orchid Society will meet at 6 p.m. Friday at the Hualalai Academy Bridge Building in Kailua-Kona.
Jurahame Leyva will speak about brassia and will bring plants for purchase. To order plants in advance, email jurahame@kurtistownorchids.com. A potluck dinner will begin at 6:15 p.m. Participants should bring a dish to share.

APAC group offers play writing support
Aloha Performing Arts Company is offering a play writing group, which will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. every other Saturday beginning Jan. 11. The group will act as a theatrical sounding board for anyone working on a script to get feedback. Group participants could then offer scripts to Felicity Johnson’s APAC Intergenerational Acting Class, for readings and possible performances. Aspiring writers also may receive guidance and encouragement from the group. Experienced members may take turns leading the group for a session. This group will meet at the APAC Loft in Kainaliu, on the second floor of the King’s Daughters Thrift Shop building. A tuition of $10 per meeting will cover expenses and provide for materials.
