The Hawaii County Fire Department is searching for a 34-year-old man who apparently fell into the Wailuku River in Hilo while fishing from shore Saturday.

Bystanders reported the man tripped and fell into the water.

Responding to the 5:46 p.m. call Saturday, fire crews searched from land, by boat, and in the water. They used rescue boards, as well as snorkeling and scuba gear, during the search, which occurred past sunset along the river’s south bank.

The search continued Sunday, according to the Fire Department.
