Preston Branco notched his first career five-goal game as the Dragons broke open a close match after halftime in Waimea.

Tony Connors and Kauiki Feliciano also scored for the Division II front-running Dragons (6-0-1), who led 1-0 after the first 40 minutes.

“Parker played really tough in the first half, and then we kind of opened it up,” Honokaa coach Maurice Miranda said. “We had some great assists to Preston. He sprung through a couple of times and finished.”

Halana Birch secured the shutout against the Bulls (0-7-1).

Makua Lani 3, Kohala 0

Goals from Aidan Alcos, James Whalen and DJ Madigan at Old Kona Airport Park carried the Lions (3-2-1) past the Cowboys (2-7).

Waiakea 1, Keaau 0

Freshman Max Adolf netted a goal in the 15th minute and goalkeeper Chris Wung made it stand up at the Cougars’ field as the Warriors improved to 5-2.

Fifth-place Keaau (2-5-1) lost ground in the chase to reach the Division I semifinals.

Girls

Waiakea 3, Keaau 0

Kylie Robertson, Kaylee Valentino and Cierra Toledo-Muragin each scored to help the visiting Warriors move atop the Division I standings at 5-0-1.

Goalkeeper Jordan Melchor turned in a clean sheet against the Cougars (2-3-1).

Honokaa 3, East-Pac 0

Nina Cardoza, Allie Shiraki and Tia Agdeppa scored to help the Dragons bolster their Division II playoff positioning with a win at home.

Kauilani Loo earned the shutout against East-Pac (2-3) as Honokaa (4-2) ended a two-game losing streak.

Makua Lani 7, Kohala 0

Sina Easley and Hannah Shimizu each recorded hat tricks and the host Lions (2-5) moved past the Cowgirls (1-7) in the Division II standings.

Brandyan Marchand also netted a goal for Makua Lani, which is now tied for fourth with East-Pac in Division II.
