NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Stephen Maxwell scored 22 points with 10 rebounds to lead Cal State Northridge to a 79-78 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night.

Isaac Fotu scored 16 points for the Warriors.

Arron Parks came in from the bench to add 19 points for the Matadors (10-7, 2-0 Big West Conference). Josh Greene scored 15 points with four assists and Stephan Hicks chipped in with nine points.

Both teams were flawless from the line in the first period with the Matadors sinking 18 of 18 and the Warriors going 8 of 8. Cal State Northridge went into the break holding a one-point edge, 40-39.

The Matadors went on a 13-2 run midway through the second half to pull away 70-57 at 8:55. The Warriors (11-5, 0-2) closed the deficit to one on a Keith Shamburger 3-pointer with 1:54 left but he missed another 30 seconds later that would have given Hawaii the lead.
