The annual Winter Wood Show is drawing crowds to Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae, next to Cafe Pesto Restaurant.

For five years, owners Elli and Gunner Mench have been showing the work of dozens of area artisans and donating 10 percent of the proceeds to the Kohala Watershed Partnership, which is managed by the Kohala Center in Waimea. In the first four years of two annual shows, they have donated more than $30,000 to the Kohala Center for the purpose of restoring an endemic forest system from Kawaihae mauka to the top of Kohala Mountain.

This year’s exhibit features work in joinery, turning, sculpture and open categories. The public is invited to vote for their favorite pieces in each category. The winners will receive cash prizes and bragging rights.

Winners will be announced after the show closes Feb. 15. The gallery is open from 11:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. daily, and can be reached at 882-1510 or harborgallery.biz.
