Namaste, the white Bengal tiger who was the star attraction at the county’s Panaewa Rainforest Zoo in Hilo, was euthanized Thursday morning, said Parks and Recreation Director Clayton Honma.

The tiger was 15.

The beloved big cat suffered from hip dysplasia and “could barely move around,” Honma said Thursday afternoon.

“It’s a sad day when we lose our main attraction,” Honma said. “He meant so much to us. He was on our logo.”

Honma said that no memorial services have been planned.
