Taylor Crabb and No. 4 Long Beach State put their power on display to sweep the University of Hawaii in its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball opener.
Crabb, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Year, smacked 12 kills and the 49ers hit a robust .350 for a 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 victory at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The No. 10 Rainbow Warriors (2-2, 0-1) hit just .153 in losing their second straight match. Brook Sedore led the way with a match-high 16 kills on 38 swings — though he had four service errors — and freshman Kupono Fey came off the bench and contributed seven kills on .250 hitting.
Long Beach (3-1, 2-1) held a 12.5-8.5 advantage in blocks.
The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Friday in Honolulu.
