Seniors’ meeting plans change
Kailua-Kona Seniors has changed its meeting plans for today. There will be no regular meeting at Hale Halawai. Instead, members will gather at the Old Kona Airport Park for the Senior Softball Tournament.

Farmers union meeting Thursday
Hawaii Farmers Union United Kona Chapter will sponsor a locavore potluck from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Tropical Edibles Nursery, 83-5696 Mamalahoa Highway in Captain Cook.
The meeting will include presentations by chef Paul Streiter, owner of Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill, discussing local sourcing and purchasing practices; Mike DuPonte and Vincent Mina discussing Korean natural farming; and David Case and Steve Sakala discussing the recent Food Summit and the 2014 legislative agenda.
An election for board members will also take place.
Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share.
West Hawaii County Band plays Friday
Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation and the West Hawaii County Band are offering a free concert, “A Tribute to Dance Music,” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. Guest artists will include the Merry Monarchs Glee Club and kumu Etua Lopes’ Halau Hula Pua Na Ui O Hawaii. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs; bench seating will also be available.

Senior line dance class begins Friday
A beginner line dance class for seniors begins Friday and will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. every Friday at Yano Hall in Captain Cook. For more information, call Rena Rainbow at 323-8484.
Identity theft workshop offered
Warren Chong, an independent representative with LegalShield, will conduct an identity theft workshop at 5 p.m. Jan. 31 at Suite Possibilities, in the Chamber of Commerce building in Kailua-Kona.
He will share information about the seven types of identity theft. Identity theft occurred every three seconds in 2012 and has been the No. 1 consumer complaint registered with the Federal Trade Commission for the past 12 years. Information on what alternatives are available and to restore an identity to pre-fraud status will be also be presented.

Hawaii Lions collect eyeglasses, hearing aids Saturday
Hawaii Lions will be collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids Saturday. Items will be received from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kailua-Kona Walmart and from 8 a.m. to noon at Kohala Market Day under the banyan trees across from the Hawi post office. Hawaii Lions receive eyeglasses year-round.
Collection locations are posted on hawaiilions.org.
The glasses will be distributed to those in need within developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible. Most recently, 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed to villagers throughout the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan by Hawaii Lions Club members.
