The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island through 5:15 p.m. today.

At 2:12 p.m., radar showed heavy rain about 7 miles north of Wood Valley in Ka‘u, according to forecasters. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.

The service cautioned the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
