HONOLULU — Isaac Fotu scored 20 points to help Hawaii pull away from Cal State Northridge for a 77-63 win Saturday night.

The game was tied at 47-47 with 12 minutes left to play. Brandon Spearman scored seven of his 15 points and Christian Standhardinger scored all six of his points in Hawaii’s drive to the finish. An All Big West first-teamer, Standhardinger averages 18.2 points per game and had scored in double figures in 10 straight games.

Garett Nevels also scored 15 points for Hawaii (15-6, 4-3 Big West), which shot 41.4 percent from the field (29 of 70) and outrebounded the Matadors, 45-34, and pulled down 23 offensive boards.

Stephan Hicks scored 18 points to lead CS Northridge (11-12, 3-5), with Josh Greene adding 15 points.

The Matadors shot 44 percent from the field (22 of 50), but attempted 20 fewer shots than Hawaii.

Cal State Northride women 75, Hawaii 72: Ashlee Guay scored 27 points and hit a go-ahead free throw with 28 seconds left in overtime to lift the Matadors at home.

Ashleigh Karaitiana scored a career-high 28 points for the Rainbow Wahine (10-9, 4-3 Big West), and she tied the UH single-game record by making six 3-pointers. Karaitiana tied the game with a 3-pointers with 11 seconds left in regulation, but she missed one late in the OT.

Kamilah Jackson recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to help Hawaii battle back from a 16-point second-half deficit.

Janae Sharp led Northridge (10-12, 6-2) with 27 points.

Water polo

Hawaii dropped two matches to top-five teams, losing 9-4 to Cal Irvine and 16-5 to Stanford at the Cardinal’s tournament.

Despite Danielle Lewis’ hat trick, Hawaii (2-2) fell to 0-33 all-time against Stanford.
