Pedro “Pete” T. Quiocho, 65, of Honokaa died Jan. 26, 2014, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Feb. 25, 1948, in Haina, Honokaa, he was a retired Vietnam War Army and Army National Guard veteran, a steward for the Hilton Waikoloa Village and member of the Honokaa United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 003-Hilo, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association-Hilo, Big Island Military Association-Hilo, Disabled American Veterans Post 9-Puna, Veterans of Foreign Wars-Hilo, International Longshore Warehouse Union 142, and the Hamakua Saranay Club.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Honokaa United Methodist Church for a 5 p.m. wake service. An all-night vigil follows at the church. Friends may call again at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 6 at the church for a service. Burial will be at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Flora Quiocho of Honokaa; daughters, Florence Quiocho (Ruben) Wamil Jr. and Karen Quiocho (Lyle) Purgganan, both of Honokaa; sons, Gerald Quiocho, Peter Quiocho and Philip Quiocho, all of Honokaa; brother, Rudolfo (Miyako) Asuncion of Oahu; sisters, Violet (David) Dias of Paauilo, Marilyn (Boy) Calivoso of Kalopa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Douglas “Boysie” Fairbanks Mercado Jr., 53, died Jan. 20, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 19, 1960, in Honolulu, he was a drywall contractor and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Faith Louie
Faith Tsui Louie, 82, of Hilo died Jan. 14, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born April 20, 1931, in Waimea, Kauai, she was a retired elementary school teacher for the state Department of Education and member of the Wainaku Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hilo.

Rapsak Shorey, 34, of Keaau died Jan. 6, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 30, 1979, in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, he was a former maintenance worker for the Arc of Hilo.

Winifred Hauoli Batalona, 77, of Hilo died Jan. 1, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 12, 1936, in Hilo, she was a retired crew chief supervisor for Mac Farms of Hawaii.

Francis Lucky Shafer, 69, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 23, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 7, 1944, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, he was the owner of Lucky’s Concrete Pumping, a fourth-degree black belt kempo karate instructor, a professional musician, Konawaena High School football coach and a volunteer search and rescue member.

Amy Emiko Matsukado, 70, of Kurtistown died Jan. 19, 2014, at the Hale Nani Rehabilitation & Nursing Center on Oahu. Born in Kurtistown, she was a retired secretary with the state Department of Education and member of the Kurtistown Jodo Mission.

Martin Oliver
Martin Stanley Oliver, 70, of Hilo died Jan. 24, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center.
Born in McLennan, Alberta, he worked on the Canadian oil rigs prior to forming Porcine Aqua Inc. in Eaglesham, Alberta, was a real estate broker and proprietor of The Land Office Inc. in Laupahoehoe and Naalehu, former manager for the original Dairy Queen in Waimea, a pilot and member of the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors Association, Hilo Experimental Aircraft Association and Big Island Ballroom Dance Club.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale, at 755 Piilani St. in Hilo, for a celebration of life. Family requests aloha attire be worn.
