Nonprofit seeks donations of excess produce

Auntie’s Angels, a nonprofit helping to feed low-income seniors at Hualalai Elderly Housing, is asking for Saturday donations of ripe or excess fruits. Boxes can be dropped off direct by calling Jan at 329-7897 or boxes can be dropped off Saturdays at the Keauhou Farmers Market.

Codependents meeting Monday

Co-Dependents Anony-mous, a 12-step fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships, meets from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Unity Church sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place, Kailua-Kona.

AAUW offers free movie screening

The Kona Branch of the American Association of University Women will host a free movie night at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the West Hawaii Civic Center Community, Building G.

“Miss Representation,” a documentary exploring the media’s power to shape the way girls and women see themselves, will be viewed. All members and the public are welcome to watch the movie and stay for discussion.

The organization’s mission is to promote equity for girls and women through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Membership information will be available.

Keck astronomer speaking Tuesday

W.M. Keck Observatory astronomer Greg Doppmann will give a free talk on circumstellar disks that surround newly formed stars at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

The inner regions of such disks are where rocky, and perhaps Earth-like planets are believed to form. Searching these planet-forming environments for compounds that promote life, such as water and organic molecules, is the focus of his research.

Kona Shrine Club meets Tuesday

The Kona Shrine Club meets at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kona Elks lodge in Kailua-Kona.

The weekly luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Fish Hopper restaurant. All Shriners are invited.

Tax preparer to address American Legion

The American Legion Post 20 and American Legion Auxiliary will meet Wednesday at the Christopher Camero Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at 74-5562 Malaka Blvd. in Kailua-Kona.

At 3:30 p.m., Antonio Gaspar, an IRS-certified tax preparer, will answer questions on tax problems. The legion’s regular meeting will start at 4 p.m. and a chicken dinner will be provided by the auxiliary at 5 p.m. Dinner cost is $10 and cocktails will be by donation.
