County ethics board meeting in Hilo
The Hawaii County Board of Ethics meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the council chambers of the Hawaii County Building, 25 Aupuni St., Hilo.

Brain Injury Support group hosts speaker
The Brain Injury Support group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Rehab Services, which is mauka of Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union on Hualalai Road.
Jack Gillen will speak on the benefits of a wave chi Hawaiian club swinging exercise. This is a form of exercise that naturally incorporates a synergistic range of motion, strengthening, low impact and balancing benefits. Gillen is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Ohana Sustainability event focuses on water
Water is the theme of Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Ohana Sustainability evening on Thursday at the school’s Gates Performing Arts Center in Waimea. The event is free and open to the public.
HPA sophomore Teagan Rutkowski will open the event at 6:30 p.m. with her presentation, “The Science of Water Technologies.” Rutkowski has been conducting independent research focused on water conservation and energy saving devices and technologies that can be used in the school’s residential halls. She will present her findings at the National Green School Conference on March 29 in California.
Following Rutkowski’s presentation, there will be a screening of “Flow,” Irene Salina’s award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st century. Beyond identifying the problem, “Flow” also gives viewers a look at the people and institutions providing practical solutions to the water crisis and those developing new technologies, which are fast becoming blueprints for a successful global and economic turnaround.

BNI representative speaking to Rotarians
Alex Mitchell, president of Business Networking International of Kailua-Kona will speak to the Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise Wednesday. Her topic will define the organization’s benefits and merits for businesses.

Book clubs meeting in February in Keauhou
Kona Stories offers both fiction and nonfiction book clubs each month. No membership or fees are associated with these groups. Those attending are asked to bring a pupu or beverage to share.
Second Tuesday Fiction Group meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss “Round House” by Louise Erdrich, winner of the 2012 National Book Award.
Just the Facts Group meets at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 and will discuss “Margaret Sanger: A life of Passion” by Jean Baker.
