Matthew Lee

Matthew “Matt” Bonner Lee, 52, of Holualoa died Feb. 5, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 15, 1961, in Honolulu, he was a self-employed propane distributor and owner of Lee LP Service and member of Big Island Body Surfing group and champion surfer who competed in Da Hui Waimea Bay Shorebreak Slam, 2013.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Feb. 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Holualoa for a Mass. A traditional Hawaiian celebration follows at Hapuna Beach State Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Andrea Lee of Holualoa; sons, Brian (Lauren) Lee and Kelly Lee, both of California; daughter, Katie Lee of California; mother, Kathryn (Ralph) Tanaka of Honokaa; brothers, Jeff (Marina) Lee of Holualoa, Wade (Lillian) Lee of Honokaa; paternal grandmother, Irene Lee of Kailua-Kona; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

James Nakao

James Yoshiaki Nakao, 84, of Honokaa was a retired welder for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a Vietnam War and 20-year Army veteran.

Arthur Akau Sr.

Arthur “Ace” Akau Sr., 62, of Waimea died Jan. 4, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 28, 1951, in Honokaa, he was a trucking foreman for Parker Ranch, a groundskeeper for Oye Construction and member of Hawaii’s Kahiko Omole Hui. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Feb. 14 at Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea for an 11 a.m. service. Scattering of ashes will be at 9 a.m. Feb. 15 at Mahukona. He is survived by sons, Arthur (Claire) Akau Jr. of Hilo, Jason (Kristen) Akau of Kawaihae, Theodore (Shantelle) Akau of Waimea, Cody Oshiro of Pahoa, Brian (Jackie) Carvalho of Kohala; daughter, Krista (Nickson Welson) Akau of Waimea; brothers, Arnold (Tracey) Akau Sr. and Arden Akau, both of Waimea; sister, Theodora (Norman) Gaspar of Ahualoa; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen Calip

Helen Melekuli Calip, 82, of Captain Cook died Jan. 21, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired candy maker for Mauna Loa Macadamia.

She is survived by husband, Patrick Calip of Milolii; sons, Elpidio (Lori) Calip of Mountain View, Warren (Mary) Calip of Pahoa, Clyde Calip of Milolii; daughters, Janice (Ray) Kilgore of Colorado, April Liberato of Pahoa; sister, Annie Hackbarth of Pearl City, Oahu; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yuriko Lily Correira, 86, of Honokaa died Jan. 14, 2014. Born in Hawaii, she was a retired controller for Hawaiian Holiday Nut Factory.

Anthony “Tony” Paul DeMello, 67, of Honalo died Jan. 25, 2014, at Queen’s Medical Center. Born Jan. 14, 1947, in Ka‘u he was a retired heavy equipment operator for E.M. Rivera & Sons and Rivco Construction.

Benny Enriquez Jr.

Benny “BJ” Enriquez Jr., 53, of Pahoa died Jan. 11, 2014, at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born July 6, 1960, in Honolulu, he was the owner and operator of BJ’s Performance Service LLC and and Army and Air Force veteran.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Puna Seventh-day Adventist Church on Kaloli Drive in Keaau for a service. A procession follows at 9 a.m. Feb. 16 for a noon celebration of life at Robert Keliihoomalu’s residence in Kaimu, Kalapana. Family requests casual attire. Flowers and lei are welcome.

William Wortley

William Edward Wortley, 65, of Kailua-Kona and Good Hart, Mich., died Jan. 14, 2014. Born Nov. 12, 1948, he was a real estate investor, mortgage banker and day trader.

Private services are planned.

He is survived by brother, Jim (Carole) Wortley of Ypsilanti, Mich.; daughter, Kristen Wortley of Tennesee.

Erva Farnsworth

Erva Farnsworth, 97, of Pahoa died Jan. 20, 2014. Born in California, she was a retired elementary school teacher.

She is survived by daughter, Bridget Milligan of Pahoa; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
