Ronald Shigenobu Miyasato, 99, of Hilo died Feb. 7, 2014, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born on Kauai, he was a retired kerosene jobber affiliated with the Shell Oil Co. and member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Hui Okinawa and the Waiakea Waena Kumiai.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 15 at the Church of the Holy Cross for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Grace Miyasato of Hilo; sons, Gilbert (Ellen) Miyasato and and William Miyasato, both of Honolulu, Mitsushi (Mayumi) Miyasato Uechi of Tokyo; daughters, Sheila (Don) Watson of Oregon, Patricia Nakamoto of Honolulu, Harriet (Gary) Kawamoto of Hilo, Christine (James) Ostrow of Boston; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Tam
Kenneth Kwai Sung Tam, 69, of Hilo, formerly of Pepeekeo, died Jan. 20, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Sept. 25, 1944, in Pepeekeo, he worked for KTA Super Stores and was a member of Trinity Community Church and Kulaimano Family Community Education Club.

Tetsuo Kunihiro, 90, of Hilo died Feb. 6, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired agricultural crew chief with the former Mauna Kea Sugar Co., an independent cane planter and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and the Piihonua Kumiai.

Jimmy “By Golly Jimmy” Lee Smith, 79, of Honokaa died Feb. 3, 2014, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born Jan. 5, 1935, in Medford, Ore., he was retired and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Magno Tablit
Magno Lira Tablit, 72, of Hilo died Feb. 1, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 11, 1941, in Ballesteros, Cagayan, Philippines, he was a seed cutter for the former Hamakua Sugar Plantation and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Tetsuro Wakayama
Tetsuro Wakayama, 93, of Waimea died Jan. 14, 2014, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Feb. 3, 1920, in Waimea, he started T. Wakayama Transfer, which transported goods between Waimea, Hilo and Kawaihae during World War II. After the war, he opened Waimea’s first liquor store, Kamuela Liquor.
The community is invited to a noon service Feb. 16 on the grassy open field next to Kamuela Liquor at 64-1010 Mamalahoa Highway. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to North Hawaii Hospice. Private family services are also planned.
He is survived by wife, Yukie Wakayama; sons, Dean, Alvin and Clyde Wakayama; five grandchildren.
Bradley Silva
Bradley K. Silva, 54, of Keaau died Feb. 4, 2014, at home. Born Feb. 23, 1959, in Hilo, he was a retired park caretaker for Hawaii County.

Raymond Hilario Madrid, 68, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 22, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 19, 1945, in Los Angeles, he was a retired auto mechanic and a musician.

Charles Haruo Kalahiki, 87, of Hilo died Feb. 4, 2014, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born Jan. 24, 1927, in Kapaa, Kauai, he was a retired roofer and resident of Kamana Senior Center in Hilo.

Maxine L. Macauley, 94, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 28, 2013, at a Kona residential care home. Born May 29, 1919, in Los Angeles, she was a homemaker, former employee of Tickle Pie and Sky’s Hallmark and member of Native Daughters of the Golden West and Las Quince Damas in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Hidetaka “Paisan” Sato, 89, of Honauanu died Jan. 18, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 8, 1924, in Honaunau, he was a retired carpenter, coffee farmer, 442nd Infantry Battalion World War II Army veteran and member of Kona Hongwanji, Hookena Kumiai, Hilo Daijingu and Kona Koyasan Daishiji Mission.
