Kamehameha Schools promotes White
Human resources executive Winona White has been named vice president of human resources at Kamehameha Schools.
In her new role, which she will begin Wednesday, White will lead the KS executive team and her HR team in designing a work environment that inspires and rewards the best of performance by the people who fulfill the mission of Kamehameha Schools.
Born and raised in Hawaii, White has more than 25 years of experience building and leading teams of human resource professionals, the last seven of which have been as vice president of human resources at Kaiser Permanente, Hawaii. In this role, she guided the various HR functions for an organization with revenues of $1 billion and a unionized workforce of 4,400 employees.
White holds a master of business administration degree and a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Hawaii’s Shidler School of Business. She is also a graduate of the advanced leadership program at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flager Business School, and a graduate of the advanced human resources executive program at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
Big Island Abalone opens store on Oahu
Kona Abalone is opening a flagship store at the Makai Market Food Court at Ala Moana Center in Honolulu.
Big Island Abalone Corp. has discovered ways to simulate the positive elements of the natural ocean environment in which a premium stock of Ezo (northern Japan) abalone flourish. This led to findings about abalone habitat, innovations in farm feeding practices and patented algae. The farming system uses a constant supply of pure, cold, nutrient-rich seawater, pumped from a depth of more than 3,000 feet in the Pacific Ocean. The result is a near-perfect environment to grow Kona Coast abalone.
The Ala Moana flagship store will sell an array of abalone including canned and vacuum-packed offerings.
Big Island Abalone Corp. produces Kona Abalone on a 10-acre site at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority in Kailua-Kona.
Ito named Mauna Lani general manager
Rodney Ito has been named general manager of Mauna Lani Bay Hotel &Bungalows. Ito will oversee operations for the 341-room resort.
A seasoned hotelier and executive in the hospitality industry, Ito brings decades of senior management experience to Mauna Lani. His most recent position was director of operations at JW Marriott Ihilani Resort &Spa.
Previously, Ito was general manager and director of operations for Marriott International’s Waikoloa Beach and Waikiki Beach properties, as well as area director of operations, North Asia, Hawaii and South Pacific.
“Mauna Lani is proud to have Rodney lead our hotel team,” Takashi Yamakawa, president of Mauna Lani Resort, said. “Rodney values the preservation of Mauna Lani’s cultural and environmental traditions.
