Deep &Beyond holds benefit Saturday
Deep &Beyond will hold a benefit from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Kona Outdoor Circle, 76-6280 Kuakini Highway.
Motivational speaker Marty Mimmack, who was born without arms, will share how Deep &Beyond has touched his life. Gourmet pupu will be served at 6 p.m. and a silent auction will be held.

Hawaii Island Cutting Horse Association holds season opener
The Hawaii Island Cutting Horse Association will hold its season opener “Fun Day” at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Parker Ranch Arena.
Novice and experienced riders and horses will practice the sport of cutting. This is a fun event in which the rider and horse team attempt to cut and keep a cow away from the herd, mirroring the movements of the cow.
New riders and horses are welcome. Cost is $75 for four turns into the herd in which the rider has 2 1/2 minutes per turn. Spectators are welcome at no charge; there is plenty of seating.

Hawaiian arts showcased Saturday
Royal Order of Kamehameha Moku O Kohala Chapter’s “Pride in Hawaiian Arts” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Kahilu Town Hall.
The event will feature dozens of exceptional artists and crafters, local food and a silent auction. Performers include Grammy Award-winner Sonny Lim, Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winner Lorna Lim and slack key masters David Kaio and Don Kaulia.

WHEA alumni invited to Saturday gathering
West Hawaii Explorations Academy alumni are encouraged to visit the school’s original campus one more time from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Attendees will reminisce with classmates and staff about all the things that make the school unique, take a group photo, and update contact information for a future all-class reunion. The gathering will take place during the annual Community Fair, which is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the campus.

Amateur radio enthusiasts meet
The Kona Amateur Radio Society meets from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority.
Anyone interested in amateur radio is invited. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share during the Cajun themed potluck.

Donations sought for library sale
North Kohala Public Library is accepting book and media donations for the annual Friends of North Kohala Library Book and Bake Sale. The sale will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. April 19 in the Kohala High School cafeteria.
Books, videos, CDs, and DVDs in good condition may be dropped off at the library during open hours. Encyclopedias will not be accepted and textbooks must have been published within the past 10 years. The library is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
Whale advisory council members sought
Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking applicants for one primary seat and three alternate seats on its advisory council. The council ensures public input into sanctuary matters and provides advice to the sanctuary management.
The sanctuary is currently seeking applicants for the following seats: commercial shipping (alternate), Native Hawaiian (alternate), and youth (primary and alternate).
