James Kerr

James “Jim” Grant Kerr, 66, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 17, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 25, 1947, in New York, he was formerly employed with Mahalo Air, Ocean Sports Waikoloa, Jack’s Diving Locker and San Diego Gas &Electric in California.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 23 at Hale Halawai for a service. A reception will follow. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Janice Kerr of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Marion Kerr of Chula Vista, Calif., Barbara (Kenneth) Crawford of Greenwood, Ind., Evelyn (Donald) Yount of Lancaster, Calif., Margaret Kerr of Martinez, Calif.; hanai sisters, Kwaj (Willy) Perez, Kay Brooks and Sharon (Andy) Goodman, all of Kohala, Judy Morris of Waimea; hanai brother, Terry (April) Tomiyama of Kohala; numerous nieces and nephews.

Milton Prout Jr.

Milton “Buzz” Chester Prout Jr., 70, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 4, 2014, at his residence. Born Oct. 12, 1943, in Lincoln, Neb., he was an insurance sales agent.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at his residence, 74-803 Uluaoa St. in Kailua-Kona, for a celebration of life.

He is survived by wife, Brenda Prout of Kailua-Kona; sons, William (Denise) Prout of Kauai, Kimo Prout of Maui, Kaleo Prout of Kailua-Kona; sister, Norma Jean Dobson of California; two grandchildren; two nieces ; two nephews.

George Nakano

George Sadao Nakano, 72, of Hilo died Feb. 11, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born Oct. 10, 1941, on Maui, he was a retired painter.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 24 at Kahului Jodo Mission for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Maui Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by daughter, Denise Chong of Honolulu; brother, Wayne Nakano of Los Angeles; sister, Claire Adachi of Honolulu.

Lapaz Camero

Lapaz Tabudlo Camero, 86, of Kapaau is also survived by a daughter, Josephine (Juanario) Asencion of Kapaau.

Caroline Kuilipule

Caroline “Dingi” Kapuras Kuilipule, 72, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 7, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 25, 1941, in Hilo, she was an executive housekeeping manager at the former Waiakea Villas Village and Naniloa Hotels.

No services will be held.

She is survived by husband, Preston Kuilipule of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Lynn (Donald) Iokepa Sr. and Laura Hundley, both of Kailua-Kona, Leslie (Jeffrey) Strength of Arizona; sons, Joel (Marla) Hundley of Las Vegas, Gerry Quilliopo of Keaau; brothers, Robert (Elizabeth) Kapuras and George Kapuras, both of Hilo; sisters, Helen Hu of Oahu, Priscilla (Ponci) Robia of Hilo, June (Bob) Barr of Arizona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yoshiaki Ogata

Yoshiaki “Sharkey” Ogata, 85, of Hilo died Feb. 13, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 27, 1928, in Puunene, Maui, he was a retired assistant air traffic control chief for the Hilo tower.

No services will be held. Ashes will be scattered at a later date. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by daughters, Lea (Dell Kaneta) Kaneta-Ogata and Audrey Ogata, both of Hilo, Wendy (Claude) Takanishi of Honolulu; brother, Roger (Agnes) Ogata of Honolulu; sisters, Yaeko Watase of Honolulu, Yachiyo (James) Masuda of Kahului, Maui; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

William “ChuChu” Kanuha, 95, of Hilo died Feb. 11, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Aug. 23, 1918, in Hilo, he was a retired sales manager for the former Hilo Motors, worked for Bank of Hawaii and was a World War II Army veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by daughters, Valli (Kata Issari) Kanuha of Honolulu, Janelle (Donald) Marshall of Makaha, Oahu; sons, Duane Kanuha and Serrell (Lynnette) Kanuha, both of Hilo, Edward (Fiona) Kanuha of Ronks, Pa.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Tadao Nago

Tadao Nago, 79, of Hilo died Feb. 3, 2014, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Nov. 24, 1934, in Pepeekeo, he was an employee of Pan American Airlines and an Army veteran.

Jane Ota

Jane Satoko Ota, 85, of Hilo died Jan. 29, 2014, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and its Women’s Buddhist Association.

Else “Elsi” Anita Matikka, 73, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 24, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 4, 1940, in Oulu, Finland, she was a homemaker.

Richard Wayne Palea Mokuohai, 63, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 16, 2013, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 26, 1950, in Kealakekua, he was a landscaper.

He is survived by brothers, Francis (Jessica Mano) Mokuohai, Moody Castillo and Jonathan Castillo, all of Kailua-Kona; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; several aunts and uncles.
