Tourist rescued after becoming lost while bird watching

A 65-year-old man became lost while bird watching Friday. He was located by PTA fire personnel and escorted to safety, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.

The man reported himself lost about 8 p.m. in the ohia forest area near mile marker 24 on Saddle Road. A rescue team searched the area using GPS coordinates from his cellphone. He was escorted out of the forest to safety and did not require medical attention, according to the fire department.
