Magazine names Hawaii’s best dentists
Thirteen Hawaii Family Dental Centers dentists were named on Hawaii’s Best Dentist list in the February issue of Honolulu Magazine.
Two of the dentists live in Kona: Michael Pampalon, who practices oral and maxillofacial surgery, and Tiffani Dunn, who practices general dentistry.
The statewide recognition is chosen by a peer review of dentists and their colleagues. According to Honolulu Magazine, Hawaii’s Best Dentist list is created by surveying more than 3,800 licensed general dentists, specialists and referring physicians. Each dentist is allowed to nominate three colleagues in each given dental specialty.

Comedy magic show moving to Kings’ Grille
KK Entertainment is moving the Kona Kozy Comedy &Magic Show to Kings’ Grille at Waikoloa Beach Resort starting March 3.
The comedy magic show opened in July 2013 and caters to tourists and residents.
Kona Kozy will perform at 7:30 p.m. every night but Thursday. Tickets include two cocktails or beverages.

Learn how to write a business plan
Participants will learn how to develop a business plan or revise an existing one with step‐by‐step instructions given during a March 13 workshop.

Bank donates proceeds from plate lunch sale
Central Pacific Bank honored its founders and thanked its customers by holding a “50 Cents Plate Lunch Sale” Feb. 15 to celebrate the bank’s 60th anniversary.
A total of 2,100 plate lunches were sold at eight branches statewide. The bank is donating the $1,050 proceeds to food banks on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island.
The significance of the 50 cent plate lunch stems from the grassroots efforts to create Central Pacific Bank. In the early 1950s, a group of nisei World War II veterans had a dream of creating a bank to serve all of Hawaii’s people. Meeting regularly at Ala Moana Beach Park with their 50-cent plate lunch, Central Pacific Bank was conceived.
Sanders named to senior technologist position
The Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems staff continues to grow, with Elliot Sanders of Hilo as the newest addition to the team. He has been selected for the center’s part-time senior technologist position.
Sanders brings 25 years of research and development, integrating expertise in mechanical engineering, material science, biology and chemical engineering processes which have led to advances in spinal, cardiovascular and neurovascular medicine.
New vehicle market predicted to move higher
Hawaii Island led the state during the last quarter of 2013 in new vehicle sales, according to the latest report released by the Hawaii Auto Dealers Association.
The island’s new retail light vehicle registrations increased 22 percent to 5,178 last year, compared to 4,234 new registrations filed in 2012.
Statewide, the new retail light vehicle registrations increased nearly 15 percent from 2012 to this year, above the 9 percent improvement nationwide. The light truck market share also increased to 49.2 percent, up 0.8 points from 2012.
Among the forces leading the market higher are the low interest rates and strong affordability; improving economic growth; and pent-up demand and benefits to upgrade. The average age of vehicles on the road exceeds 10 years, which is prompting consumers to purchase a new vehicle on need and desire, the report stated.
However, consumer attitudes about the economic future and those hesitant about adding debt to their household may hold the market back.
“Positive factors will lead the market higher in 2014, but we believe that for at least the next two years, the negative factors will place a ceiling on how high new vehicle sales will go, and we could approach that ceiling by 2015,” the report stated.
Associa Hawaii holds free seminar Friday
Associa Hawaii, an Associa company, will host a complimentary seminar for new and seasoned board members from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

The next monthly Business First Pau Hana will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 6 on the Blue Dragon lanai.
