Meeting invites public input on outdoor recreation plan
The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks invites the public to informational meetings about the 2014 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.
The Kona meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the West Hawaii Civic Center’s Community Meeting Hale.
Public participation will help State Parks and National Park Service select projects to receive Land and Water Conservation funding that best meets Hawaii’s recreational needs and helps resolve any recreational conflicts. Meetings will include a brief presentation near the beginning, but information will be available throughout the evening. The public can drop by for as much or as little time as they wish. Keiki are welcome, and there will be a special activity for them. Anyone who is unable to attend may take a recreation plan survey, which is available at surveymonkey.com/s/HISCORP2014 through Friday.
Keiki story time held Wednesday in Keauhou
The American Association of University Women and Kona Stories Book Store have partnered to bring a monthly story time for children 2 to 6 years old to Keauhou Shopping Center.
This month’s story time will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The theme is night time. Snacks and crafts will represent this theme and children are encouraged to wear pajamas.
The fee is $5. Space is limited to 30 children and reservations are recommended. Check in 10 minutes early at the book store. For more information, call 324-0350.
Neighborhood watch for Yano Hall meets
A meeting for the neighborhood watch for the renovated Yano Hall will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Yano Hall. Community Officer Darren Cho will speak to the group.

Program helps farmers restore land damaged by natural disasters
Applications will be accepted for the Emergency Conservation Program beginning Friday.
This program provides emergency funding and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers to rehabilitate farmland damaged by natural disasters. The resulting damage must be so costly to rehabilitate that federal assistance is required to return the land to productive agriculture use.
Anyone who has suffered any damages because of the heavy rains that occurred from Dec. 19 to 31 should contact the Hawaii County Farm Service Agency at 933-8381 to report damages and to schedule a damage assessment. This process will allow the agency to determine eligibility for the program.
Free movie shown Friday at civic center
Elderly Recreation Services will be holding its free monthly movie day at 10 a.m. Friday.
This month’s movie will be “Keeping Mum,” starring Maggie Smith and Rowan Atkinson. The movie will be shown at the West Hawaii Civic Center in Building A. For more information, call Kelly at 323-4340.
