Overeaters Anonymous meets Saturday
Overeaters Anonymous meets from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Church Sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place in Kailua-Kona.
The 12-step program views compulsive overeating as a physical, emotional and spiritual disease that can be arrested but not cured. It is not a diet club, there are no dues, fees or weigh-ins. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.
The nonprofit organization is supported by the voluntary contributions of attending members.
Presentation on worldwide voyaging canoe trip scheduled
Chadd Paishon, senior captain and navigator of the Hokulea and Makalii voyaging canoes, will offer a presentation Saturday on the five-year World Wide Voyage.
The program, entitled “Island Wisdom, Ocean Connections, Global Lessons,”will be given from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St. Attendees will learn about past journeys and future plans. Pupu will be served after the program. Suggested donation is $10 to $25. Proceeds will benefit the Voyaging Education Program.

Educators workshop offered Saturday
Hawaii Learning Resource is offering a workshop for educators presented by Kavita Rao. “Universal Design for Learning: Strategies and Tools to Engage Diverse Learners” will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Kanu o ka Aina New Century Public Charter School, 64-1043 Hiiaka St. in Waimea.
The workshop is designed for educators of elementary school students. However, parents are also welcome to attend. The workshop will explore how educators can use everyday technology such as laptops and tablets to create multimedia projects that support academic, social and behavioral goals.
Register at hawaiilearningresource.org. A fee of $15 includes use of a computer, refreshments and lunch. The fee may be waived for eligible participants.
Hazardous waste collection Saturday
A household hazardous waste collection will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Waimea Recycling and Transfer Station. These collection is for household generated and self-hauled waste only. Business, government agency or farm wastes are not allowed. No electronic waste will be accepted.
Acceptable waste includeds automotive fluids, used batteries, fluorescent lights and pesticides. Latex paint will also be accepted Saturday. For a more complete list of acceptable or unacceptable waste, visit hawaiizerowaste.org.

Volunteers plan work day at Waimea playground
The community is invited to help get Anuenue Playground in Waimea back in good, safe working order at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
A group of volunteers needs help with skilled carpentry, staining and general labor to work a morning or afternoon shift. Help and donations are welcome to help restore the playground.
