No tsunami triggered by earthquake off Japan

No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-6.6 earthquake that struck Sunday morning in waters off Ryuku Islands, Japan.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports the earthquake hit at 10:11 a.m. Hawaii time. It said based on all available data, a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat to Hawaii.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake’s depth was registered at about 69 miles.
